Protect your floor with the right chair mat!
Chair mats are designed to protect your floors and facilitate easy chair movement. Always choose the correct mat for your space and floor type such as wood floors and carpeted floors.
The most important factor in choosing a chair mat is making sure it's thick enough for the floor it covers. You can use a regular paper clip to measure the thickness of your carpet. This process is described on Page 185 of our 2009 Mega Catalog.
Chair mats come in three common configurations, rectangular with a lip, rectangular, and L-Workstation. Also consider the opacity of your mat and how it will appear on your floor. A clear mat lets the beauty of your floor come through and black will hide unsightly stains or soiled carpeting.

Featured Recipe - Fennel-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin with Roasted Fennel Wedges
Ingredients
The combination of fennel and roast pork is an Italian classic. Here, fennel bulbs become a tender, almost silky partner for pork, but to create another layer of flavor, we've added some crushed fennel seeds.
1 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 pound pork tenderloin
2 medium fennel bulbs, trimmed, reserving fronds
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 garlic cloves, smashed
1/4 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, or to taste
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F with rack in middle.
Crush fennel seeds with a mortar and pestle or wrap in a kitchen towel and crush with bottom of a heavy skillet.
Pat pork dry, then sprinkle with crushed fennel seeds and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Cut fennel bulbs lengthwise into 1/2-inch wedges.
Heat oil in a 12-inch oven-proof heavy skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Brown pork on all sides, about 6 minutes total, then transfer to a plate. Sauté garlic and fennel wedges in skillet until fennel is golden brown, about 6 minutes. Add wine, stirring and scraping up brown bits, then stir in broth and butter. Put pork on top of fennel and transfer skillet to oven. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into center of pork registers 145 to 150°F, about 15 minutes. Transfer pork to a cutting board and let rest 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, transfer skillet to stovetop (handle will be hot) and boil, stirring occasionally, until most of liquid has evaporated. Stir in lemon juice and 1/4 cup chopped fennel fronds. Thinly slice pork and serve over fennel with sauce.

Organizing your office can have more of an impression than you are probably aware. They say you only have one opportunity to make a first impression. Keep this in mind while organizing your office because while most people think that phrase pertains to how we're dressed or how firm a handshake we deliver, it also applies to offices and/or business storefronts.
If a customer or someone else happened to walk by your office right now, would you be embarrassed over the state of your surroundings or is it deemed "tour ready"? Perhaps you're thinking of organizing your home office because you dread an unexpected visit from a neighbor. Regardless of where your office is located, you have some good options to make that first impression.
If reorganizing your space is needed then consider doing the following:
1) Label all project folders and/or manila files sitting on your desk.
2) Get rid of the stacks of files by placing them in a step file holder on your desk. You can now see at a glance the various projects that need your attention.
3) Reclaim your floor. By taking a peek under and around your desk you'll probably find items that need to be taken home, returned to others or thrown away/recycled.
4) Eliminate interruptions. Exit out of your email management program when you need to concentrate on another task. Interruptions side-track your thought process and prevent you from being more productive.
5) At the end of the day spend 5-10 minutes putting items away. This is a simple way to guard against things getting out-of-control and you'll love the look of your office upon returning to work.
Getting your office organized by implementing these techniques will take you a long way towards having a more productive work environment and making that rarely-forgotten first impression. An easy cure for the cluttered office space! |
